Vehicle Inspection Checklist

Once you have looked around, shortlisted and decided to view vehicles you must make sure you carry out a vehicle inspection to check some vital things. It is very easy to fall in love with a vehicle and perhaps buy it at the wrong price or without knowing all the needed information. Read our truck and van checklist to see what you should be looking out for when buying a van or truck:

The van or truck exterior 
Walk round the van or truck and carefully examine the exterior condition of the van or truck to check for chips, dents, rusting and other defects. Here is a list of the top things you should be checking: 

1. The paintwork for dents, scratches, rust and chips
2. The windows for chips
3. Locks for rust and ease
4. All of the panels should be lined up 

The van or truck interior 
Check the internal condition and working order of the vehicle for any stains, breakages, electrical faults and other problems. Check the following: 

1. Seats and fabrics for stains, holes and imperfections.
2. Seat belts work properly
3. Seats adjustment
4. Interior mirror
5. Headlights, interior lights, rear lights, indictor & hazard lights
6. All controls and switches
7. Horn works properly
8. Check the Radio/Cass/CD/Aerial
9. Heater / fan controls and Air Con operation
10. Electric or wind up windows open and close with ease
11. Wipers / washers work 

The van and truck mechanics
The most important things to check are in this topic. This is making sure all the basic mechanics of the van are in good working order as if you miss something it could mean a costly trip to the garage. 

1. Look all round the van for any fluid or oil leaks which could mean you have a problem with the clutch
2. The exhaust should be firmly fixed on and have no rust or damage to it
3. Check the levels of oil and other fluids under the bonnet
4. Ensure the break disks and pads are not too run down
5. The tyre depth tread should be 1.6mm
6. Check the steering wheel alignment
7. Make sure the handbrake is in full working order
